Beer and Beads…sounds like a Perfect match just like Peanut Butter and Jelly except with the special ingredient of FUN!!! There’s absolutely no shortage of Bars and Restaurants in the French Quarter, but there’s only ONE that actually makes their own Beer. Crescent City Brewhouse is the special place where Microbreweries are born and bad decisions are forgotten with a pint or two. Being the only Microbrewery in the Quarter, it would’ve been easy for the Brewhouse to just be another Bar, but German Founder and Brewmaster Wolfram Koehler wasn’t having that. What you have is a Bar that is Brewery first, Entertainment second, and Food that finishes you off.
Food is Last?!
But the Food..the Food…shouldn’t that be First?!!! Well as anyone whose enjoyed the many pounds of Crawfish, Oysters, and Beignets can tell you, it’s about the experience of New Orleans and not necessarily one thing that makes Nawlins…Nawlins Ya Heard! With that being said, each destination in the Quarter has its own memorable quirks. As you stumble in the Brewhouse from Decatur Street, you’ll notice Jellyfish…yes Neon Jellyfish hanging from above the Bar where the Master Shucker is popping Oysters like a DJ spinning Beats! And on your right, your ears will bleed in delight from the blaring horns and trumpets of Live Jazz. Walk in further and you’ll marvel at the gallery of Watercolor Canvases hanging around each angular wall. Finally, step outside and hear the fountains flowing as you enjoy the soft breeze flowing from above…so what are we eating again?
It’s all about the Beer
Actually it’s all about Four Crafted Beers: Black Forest, Weiss Beer, Red Stallion, Pilsner. Just Four and just enough if you ask me as all too often Brewhouses have become quantity over quality…I mean 200 Beers is Fantastic, but after about 8 or 10 Beers, I can’t even count to Four. Behind the Bar, the Microbreweries are busy pumping out Liquid Happiness. Personally, I like the Red Stallion myself it’s smooth and stout without tasting harsh plus it has a Cool name that definitely represents who I am!…well at least that’s what I tell myself. It’s quite easy to get lost in all the surroundings and Beer, but once your stomach starts growling, you’ll know it’s time.
Finally, let me Eat!!!
Ok, ok…so how’s the food? Being frank, it’s not bad at all. You have your classics like Gumbo, Crawfish Etouffee, and Boudin but you also have specialties like the Brewhouse BLT or Fried Alligator Sauce Picante. I don’t have a personal favorite, but I’m a sucker for Oysters so the Shucker is my best friend. Service was solid and the people were more than happy to tell you stories about the Beer or some Nawlins Trivia. People are Happy at Crescent City Brewhouse and that’s the best reason to wear your Beads while drinking your Beer! Get Location
